One Source Refreshment founder Bob Betz remembers the early days when he began his vending services business 40 years ago. “It was just me and my truck,” he says. “I would wear my work clothes to make deliveries and have a clean suit in the back to change into when I saw an opportunity to make cold calls.” Back then Bob was starting his workday at 3 am and returning home just in time to tuck his kids into bed.
Bob was initially a route driver for a large national vending company and that’s when the desire to go out on his own hit. “I noticed that the smaller accounts weren’t getting the attention they deserved or being serviced at all. I knew I could provide them with better, more personalized service.”
He decided to start his own business with the support of his wife, Jackie, and their two small children, Steve and Laura. “The kids would count and sort coins from the cash boxes in the vending machines. That’s how they would help out. And Jackie also worked full-time to support our family,” he remembers. Now Bob’s kids are grown – and so has his company. One Source Refreshment calls Montgomery County home and resides in a state-of-the-art facility in Pottstown. Jackie manages the office, Steve supervises the warehouse and distribution center, and his son-in-law Chuck oversees account services. “We employ over 70 people here, but this is not a corporate mentality,” Bob says. “Everyone here is a part of my work family.”
